Let’s Seek God Together! Two-Day Conference coming to Brentwood

By wherald

Inspirational speaker and best-selling author of The Weigh Down Diet book, Gwen Shamblin, and the Weigh Down Ministries staff are making preparations for their annual two-day faith based seminar “Desert Oasis.”

The conference includes inspiring, foundational, scripture-based lectures (including “What Do I Do with my Pain?”), inspirational testimonies from successful participants who have been set free from countless addictions, and many whose testimonies have been featured in national media outlets. Brand new participants, long time Weigh Down participants, and friends will benefit from the practical sessions on how to apply the Word of God to every aspect of their lives. Many find the answers to what is holding them back from laying down addictions and being totally set free.

Weigh Down Ministries is sponsored by and serves as the publishing house for the Remnant Fellowship Church, and its mission is to meet the needs of the community in the form of classes, books, and education on how to overcome “strongholds” in their lives. Education on “how to” overcome and encouragement is available on a daily basis for anyone for issues such as: health/weight loss, eating disorders, marriage, finances, parenting, depression, and many, many more.

For more than 25 years, Weigh Down, a not-for profit ministry, has successfully helped many businesses, communities, and churches improve their spiritual and physical health. The founder, Gwen Shamblin, was honored by former Nashville Mayor Phil Bredesen as Lipscomb University’s Christian Business leader of the year in 1998. Today Weigh Down continues to reach out locally and internationally. The offices in Franklin offer free classroom time for the public, with educational videos and audios each week, Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 1.p.m. These classes are for anyone who is looking for a faith-based alternative to addiction and obesity. Both online and local classes are started daily around the world, complete with ongoing help, books, and support from class coordinators.

Marc Dunn, a resident of Franklin and an avid attendee of the Desert Oasis Seminars and other various events put on by Weigh Down explained, “In 2000, Tish (my wife) and I were blessed to attend Desert Oasis, listen to Gwen speak live, and to meet a number of new people who wanted nothing more than to learn more about God and our relationship with Him. Over the course of that conference and during the next few months, I lost 70 pounds off of my 5-foot-10-inch frame, and my wife Tish lost 35 pounds. As a result of what we heard that weekend, our marriage also was strengthened. We have attended each Desert Oasis since 2000. We will be there this year!”

To reserve a seat, register online or on the day of the event. Reservations are free. The event is being held Friday and Saturday, July 22 and July 23 at the Remnant Fellowship Church, 1230 Franklin Road, Brentwood. On Friday, July 22, doors open at 3 p.m. and the evening lecture begins at 6 p.m. On Saturday, registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and lectures begin at 9:30 a.m. After a lunch break, the conference will continue into the late afternoon.
